Learn Shapes Through Art: Fishy Shapy Project for Kids

Hello everyone! In this lesson, we’ll have fun exploring shapes together by creating a fish artwork. Lines come together to create enclosed spaces, which we call shapes. Some shapes are geometric, like circles, squares, and triangles. Meanwhile that, others are organic and flow naturally, inspired by nature.

Using a fish as our theme, we’ll discover how we can repeat, overlap and combine simple shapes to build a more complete and interesting picture.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the lesson, we will:

  • Understand geometric and organic shapes in art
  • Create a fish artwork using basic shapes
  • Explore balance, composition and basic visual structure
  • Strengthen observation skills, creativity and problem-solving through art

MATERIALS NEEDED:

White Glue, Scissor, Coloured Papers

Safety Tip: Please be careful when using scissors. A parent or guardian should supervise children during cutting activities.

STEP 1

Cut out lots of shapes for the fish’s scales. Use different sizes, colors and shapes to make your future fish bright and fun.

STEP 2

Choose a piece of coloured paper for your fish’s body. Draw the fish shape long, round or with a fancy tail and carefully cut it out. You can add extra details like fins before gluing the scales.

STEP 3

Fold the fish body slightly in half like a book. Start gluing the scales along the folded edge. This gives the fish a fun 3D effect!

STEP 4

Continue adding scales until the entire body is covered. Play with colour patterns, maybe a rainbow, stripes or random colours. The more colourful, the more lively your fish will look!

STEP 5

Glue on the fish tail if you haven’t already. Then draw the eyes and mouth with markers, crayons or coloured pencils. Give your fish a happy, funny or silly face and make it your own creation!

FINISH AND CELEBRATE! 🎉

Once your fish is complete, take a moment to admire your colorful creation! Remember, every fish is unique and special. You can hang it on the wall, stick it in a scrapbook or even make a whole school of fish with your friends or family.

We would love to see your amazing fish artwork! Send us a picture and share your creativity with us. Who knows? Your fish might even be featured on our website or social media. 👀
