Learn Lines Through Art: Dancing Line Painting

Hey there! Did you know that lines are the building blocks of all art? They help guide the eye, show movement and even create shapes. In this kids’ art lesson, we’re going to have fun exploring the First Element of Art: Line by making a dancing line painting. You’ll get to experiment with curves, zig-zags, straight lines and thickness, all while boosting your creativity and fine motor skills. Let’s get those lines moving and see what amazing artwork you can create!

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the lesson, we will:

  • Understand the use of The First Element of Art: Line
  • Practice line variation, rhythm and movement
  • Learn to combine different types of lines to create dynamic compositions

Materials Needed:

Paper, Acrylic paints/Watercolor, Paintbrushes, Sponges

Helpful Tips: Acrylic paints are great for bold colours and quick drying, while watercolors are ideal for soft, flowing effects.

STEP 1

Grab your sponges and start stamping circles on the paper. Try using different sizes of sponges and colours to make your artwork more dynamic and fun.

STEP 2

Keep stamping until you fill up the entire page with circles. You can overlap the circles, change directions and mix different sizes in one place to create movement.

STEP 3

Once the paint is dry, start drawing lines to connect the circles. Use straight, wavy, zig-zag or curved lines and see how they move across the page.

STEP 4

Draw lines over your circles using the overlapping method. This means letting some lines cross over each other and over the circles.

Don’t worry about being perfect, overlapping the lines adds texture and makes your artwork look more lively and full of movement!

CONGRATULATIONS AND ALL DONE! 🎉
